About Us
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to share the beauty and abundance of Northern Ontario’s boreal forest. We provide an amazing combination of unspoiled wilderness, unparalleled beauty, exceptional comfort and world-class fishing to those seeking an exclusive wilderness experience.
Our History:
Our family has been providing quality wilderness vacations on Esnagi Lake for over 60 years! Debbie’s grandfather, Ivan MacLachlan, started with the original “Camp 88 Lodge” location in the late 1950’s and her father, Don MacLachlan, acquired Mar Mac Lodge in 1972. Don and Marcy MacLachlan successfully operated Mar Mac through the 70s, 80s and into the 90s, while raising their four children. Not a feat for the faint of heart!!! Debbie MacLachlan was raised on site and she and Ken Johnston took over operations in 1994. More recently, Emily and Will Johnston grew up on the property and both spent much time working in the business. Emily continues to work for Mar Mac on a part time basis and Will is currently employed full time in hospitality management in Sault Ste. Marie.
Current Team:

KEN JOHNSTON
Owner
Ken joined the team at Mar Mac Lodge in 1994 and has been head of operations since 1996. In the 2000’s he became an owner of the company and worked hard to expand Mar Mac’s hunting operations. Ken graduated from the Forest Technician program and Fish and Wildlife Technology program at Sault College. His passion for the tourism industry is notable by his participation on various tourist association boards within Ontario. During his spare time Ken enjoys riding his motorcycle, hiking, hunting, fishing, reading and traveling. DEBBIE MACLACHLAN
Owner
Born and raised at Mar Mac Lodge, Debbie realized in early adulthood that she could not envision a life without Mar Mac Lodge. She is currently the third generation operating a lodge on Esnagi Lake. She loves living the remote life, meeting people from all walks of life, and is passionate about ensuring the Mar Mac Lodge experience is second to none. In her free time she enjoys paddling canoes, kayaks and standup paddleboards, camping, hiking and playing ice hockey.

EMILY JOHNSTON
Social Media
Emily belongs to the most recent generation raised at Mar Mac Lodge. She has an unmatched love of the outdoors and tries to get to Mar Mac whenever possible. While she currently holds a full time position based in Sault Ste. Marie, she continues to run our social media accounts in her free time. Emily is passionate about the environment, sustainability, and travel. In her spare time she can be found on a yoga mat or in the middle of the forest on a hiking trail. MARCELLA MACLACHLAN
Advisor/Legacy Builder
Alongside her late husband, Don, Marcy spent her working career creating the legacy that is Mar Mac Lodge, as well as the legacies of White River Air and Lodge Eighty Eight. Marcy is now enjoying retirement in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where she is actively involved with her children and grandchildren. We all rely heavily upon her advice, experience, and expertise as we continue to navigate the ever changing world of remote based tourism.
