About Us

Inside Marc Mac Main LodgeMission Statement:

Our mission is to share the beauty and abundance of Northern Ontario’s boreal forest. We provide an amazing combination of unspoiled wilderness, unparalleled beauty, exceptional comfort and world-class fishing to those seeking an exclusive wilderness experience.

Our History:

Our family has been providing quality wilderness vacations on Esnagi Lake for over 60 years! Debbie’s grandfather, Ivan MacLachlan, started with the original “Camp 88 Lodge” location in the late 1950’s and her father, Don MacLachlan, acquired Mar Mac Lodge in 1972. Don and Marcy MacLachlan successfully operated Mar Mac through the 70s, 80s and into the 90s, while raising their four children. Not a feat for the faint of heart!!! Debbie MacLachlan was raised on site and she and Ken Johnston took over operations in 1994. More recently, Emily and Will Johnston grew up on the property and both spent much time working in the business.

It is incredibly exciting to know we are now very close to transitioning Mar Mac Lodge to the FOURTH generation! Both Emily and Will have completed post-secondary education in the hospitality management field. Emily has joined the team full time as of fall of 2020. Will is busy gaining experience and knowledge with other employment but plans to return to Mar Mac in the future.

Ken Aspect Ratio 480 360

Trained in fish and wildlife biology, Ken is an avid hunter and fisherman. His employment at Mar Mac began in 1994 and he has been heading operations since 1996. In the 2000’s Ken became an owner of the company. Ken is passionate about the outdoors and the tourism industry. He participates on the boards of various tourist associations in Ontario as a way of giving back to an industry that has blessed our family. During his spare time Ken enjoys motorcycle tripping, hiking, and traveling.

Born and raised at Mar Mac Lodge, Debbie realized in early adulthood that she could not envision a life without Mar Mac Lodge. She is currently the third generation operating a lodge on Esnagi Lake. Although she majored in Psychology, she has much business training under her belt. She is an avid outdoors person and traveler and is passionate about nature and the environment. She loves to play ice hockey, go hiking, canoeing, and kayaking and is eager to share the Mar Mac experience with fellow paddlers by way of our new Boreal Escape Package.

Guest Services Manager/Employee Relations Manager

Emily is the first of the fourth generation to rise to the challenge of running a remote business. She will make her debut in the 2021 season as our Guest Services Manager and our Employee Relations Manager. Emily has completed her education in hospitality and resort management and has spent two seasons gaining meaningful work experience in Canada’s Yukon. Emily is passionate about the environment, sustainability, and travel. In her spare time she can be found on a yoga mat or in the middle of the forest on a hiking trail. We are excited to welcome Emily to the management team!

Advisor/Legacy Builder

Alongside her late husband, Don, Marcy spent her working career creating the legacy that is Mar Mac Lodge, as well as the legacies of White River Air and Lodge Eighty Eight. Marcy is now enjoying retirement in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where she is actively involved with her children and grandchildren. We all rely heavily upon her advice, experience, and expertise as we continue to navigate the ever changing world of remote based tourism.
