If you’re yearning for an escape into nature’s untouched beauty, look no further than Mar Mac Lodge’s Northend Outpost. Situated on the remote shores of stunning 27-mile-long Esnagi Lake, this wilderness retreat offers the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts alike.
A Wilderness Paradise Awaits
The Northend Outpost is not a lodge experience. It’s an adventure tailored for those who crave seclusion and independence. Located on the northernmost tip of Esnagi Lake, this outpost is an idyllic setting for groups of up to 8 people. Your adventure begins and ends at the White River Air Seaplane Base, and round-trip airfare is included in your package.
Accommodations Designed for Comfort
Once you arrive at the Northend Outpost, you’ll settle into a cozy, vertical log cabin that combines rustic charm with modern conveniences. The cabin features four spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms equipped with sinks, toilets, and showers, ensuring that your group has all the comforts of home.
The beds are single bunks. We do provide a clean, fitted sheet on each bunk and a pillow with a clean pillowcase. You are responsible for bringing your bedding and towels, including dish towels and cloths.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a full-sized propane cookstove and oven, along with propane refrigerators for your perishables. With hot and cold running water, electric lighting, and a wood-burning stove for heat, you’ll find everything you need to create a comfortable base for your adventures. A large deck equipped with a propane BBQ provides the perfect spot to grill your fresh catch while enjoying the stunning lake views.
A Fisherman’s Dream
The Northend Outpost is a fisherman’s paradise that promises an unforgettable angling experience. Equipped with a combination of 16-foot aluminum boats and 18-foot cedar strip boats powered by 20HP motors, you have the perfect vessels to explore the vast waters of Esnagi Lake. Cast or drop your line for walleye, northern pike, perch and whitefish. The boats are equipped with seats, seat cushions, PFD’s and minnow buckets if you need them.
A Mar Mac representative will provide you with maps of the lake and go over the current hot spots, lures, bait and techniques. Because this is a self-supported experience, please realize that guide services are not available. For those who want to keep live bait on site, we recommend nightcrawlers. They are easy to keep, and there are about 45 dozen in each flat. Leeches can be kept in cold water, but you must be sure to change their water daily.
Embrace the Self-Supported Experience
A Mar Mac representative will meet you at the Outpost on your day of arrival. They will go over lake maps and fishing holes, the water pump, the electrical generating equipment and the boats and motors, ensuring you are set up for a successful stay. They will ensure the outpost has been left clean, and will replace dirty fitted sheets, pillowcases and shower curtains.
It is essential to note that the Northend Outpost operates as a self-supported vacation. This means you need to bring your own fishing gear, tackle, bait, food, drinks, bedding, and towels. The challenge becomes space and weight on the aircraft. Each guest at the Northend Outpost may bring in 150 lbs of gear. We often see groups toting cases of bottled water, which is a huge waste of space and weight in the aircraft. Instead, filter lake water using a modern lightweight system. A lightweight gravity filter packs small and can purify four litres of water in just five minutes. While this may sound like a bit of extra preparation, it adds to the adventure! And since you must fly your garbage back out, remember to bring some sturdy bags and avoid single-use containers, especially glass ones.

We will check in on you during your stay, providing support and assistance while respecting your independence. Cell service is not available at the Northend Cottage. We have a SPOTX available (2-way satellite messenger) for a fee if you want the ability to communicate with the lodge in case of emergencies.
TIP! One way to get a message back to the lodge is simply ask any angler in a cedar strip boat to relay a message to lodge management for you.
Being a self-supported, remote accommodation, we expect you to leave the outpost clean for the next occupants. We have provided all supplies necessary to do a good cleaning of the washrooms, kitchen and floors. Please remove the fitted sheets from any used beds and the shower curtains and place in one pile near the door. The Mar Mac representative will be arriving with clean replacements and will bring the dirty linens to the lodge for laundering. You will find a cleaning check list posted by the door. Should the outpost not be left clean we will issue a cleaning fee.
